Monthly parking for eligible users

Since 1 September 2026, the city lists a permit price of CHF 50 per month or CHF 500 per year. Eligible users include residents and employees of businesses within the defined area when sufficient private parking is unavailable. Employees must provide confirmation from their employer. Permits are available through Parkingpay or at the counter. For a monthly rental car, the number plate matters: the digital permission is linked to it, and municipal police check that link.

Choose parking for the destination

The city parking map distinguishes Amthaus, Nau/Eishalle, Schliffweg/Schwimmbad and SBB parking, among other locations. For the first three, it lists charging hours of Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 7 pm. For the EGK car park, it notes employee use on weekdays until 5.30 pm. A car park shown on the map is therefore not necessarily available to everyone at every time of day.

Combine a station transfer and a town visit

The map separately identifies SBB parking as Park & Rail for journeys continuing by train. Other marked areas are closer to particular appointments in the old town or visits to sports facilities. The published overview map is dated 18 December 2024; also consult the signs at your chosen car park for current prices and permitted hours.

Monthly permit and original-size printout

The current municipal website lists long-stay blue-zone permits at CHF 10 for a day, CHF 50 for a month and CHF 500 for a year. They cover extended parking during the day and at night. Short daytime parking with a parking disc is exempt. The municipality requires the permit to be printed at its original A5 size and placed behind the windscreen; it must not be reduced or altered. Preparing for a monthly rental therefore includes obtaining a legible original-size printout.

Visiting the castle without driving onto its square

The municipal parking plan designates the castle grounds and Eichliplatz as no-parking areas. For event guests, it instead shows blue zones at Judenacker and by the church, plus the metered car park at the railway station. Plan the castle destination and the parking location separately. The current service page is the relevant source for permit prices; an older price on the location plan should not be used for budgeting.

Dorfstrasse: a lowered kerb is not a parking space

The municipality explains that the broad, partly lowered pavement edges on the refurbished Dorfstrasse do not generally authorise vehicle use. Parking on the pavement is allowed only where expressly signed or marked. It also points out priority to the right at several junctions. Even for a quick pickup or unloading, the new layout should therefore not be treated as freely available parking.

Use the school car park for Hübelweg

The municipality explicitly directs Hübelweg visitors to the schoolyard car park. This visitor information is purpose-specific and does not guarantee permanent parking during a monthly rental. Adjacent access routes must remain clear.

The municipal charging station is not public

In September 2025, Dittingen published the decision to reserve the charging station concerned for municipal administration staff and teachers. Visitors should therefore not plan to use it as an unrestricted charging stop. A charger appearing on a map alone does not establish public access rights.

Bus connections towards Laufen and Zwingen

The current TNW line overview places Blauen on line 114 between Bärschwil Hölzlirank, Laufen, Dittingen and Zwingen. Laufen is therefore not the only relevant place for rail connections. This current line number should be distinguished from older local descriptions using different numbers.

The Mitfahrbänkli as an addition

The municipality presents its «Mitfahrbänkli» lift-sharing bench as a community initiative. Spontaneous lifts offer a local addition, but are not a bookable transport service with guaranteed departures. A scheduled connection or your own journey remains sensible for appointments at fixed times. Blauen also groups information about works on Zwingenstrasse and Dorfstrasse under a dedicated road refurbishment section; a single older construction notice should not be read as a permanent closure.

Distinguish routes 112 and 113

Route 112 runs via Röschenz and Laufen to Breitenbach, continuing to Nunningen during peak periods. The new route 113 supplements it during weekday peak periods, running via Laufen and Breitenbach to Erschwil and Beinwil. This additional connection is therefore not an all-day weekend alternative. Since the timetable change, journeys to Roggenburg use route 116 from Kleinlützel.

Forsthütte: vehicle access depends on hut rental

Baselland Tourismus states an important restriction for Forsthütte Röschenz: when renting the hut, two cars can drive to it. It is easily accessible on foot. For a group event, check with the hut provider which vehicles may enter and where other guests should start. This information does not grant general driving access to every visitor or every car in a group.

Agree on the exact stop

The PostBus Laufental/Thierstein network map, valid from 14 December 2025, labels Brislach Dorf, Brislach Oberdorf and Brislach Lärchenweg separately. Use the full stop name when arranging a pickup or searching for connections to avoid meeting at the wrong end of the village.

Roads and meadows are not spare parking areas

Municipal regulations permit towing vehicles that are parked unlawfully or obstruct winter maintenance if the responsible person cannot be contacted in time or refuses to move them. Driving on meadows and cultivated land is also generally prohibited, except for authorised parties specified in the regulations. A field edge is therefore no substitute when a visitor space is occupied. For a longer stay, an authorised space with someone reachable to move the vehicle is sensible.

Arriving by public transport

The PostBus network map for 2026 shows Wahlen on lines 111 and 114. Laufen is a key interchange for arrival by train. When searching for a connection, specify the exact stop in Wahlen: the network map distinguishes Petersplatz, Unterdorf and Wahlenstrasse, among others. This lets you plan the final stretch to your destination more precisely.

Keep agricultural tracks clear

Municipal regulations on agricultural infrastructure state that farm tracks must remain clear for agricultural and forestry traffic. Rights to use these tracks belong to directly adjoining landowners and other authorised users; the municipality may grant exceptions or impose restrictions. A field track visible on a map is therefore not a general through route or parking area. During a longer stay, use a legally available space in the built-up area or on private land, not the entrance to an agricultural access track.

Bus to the valley floor and Laufen

Route 118 connects Laufen railway station with Liesberg and Riederwald. The 2026 timetable lists Station, Bebrunnenmatten and Riederwald separately from the village loop through Seemättli, Ochsengasse and Dorfplatz. Not every service follows that loop. When visiting a business on the valley floor, use its exact address to choose the appropriate stop.

Krötenweg: plan your return to the car

The municipality describes the Krötenweg from Riederwald bus stop via Oberrüti, Hellflue and Andil nature reserve, taking around three hours on foot. The route can finish at Seemättli or return to its starting point. If arriving by rental car, choose the circular option or plan a return connection beforehand; the route description does not confirm visitor parking.

Choose Dorfplatz rather than Station

Route 118 runs through Seemättli and Ochsengasse to Dorfplatz before returning downhill to Station. Visitors to the village should therefore not simply select «Station» as their destination. Connections from Dorfplatz run to Laufen railway station; the published timetable requires groups to reserve. Individual services differ, so finding a connection all the way to Dorfplatz matters.

Andil: five minutes on foot from “An den Holden”

The cantonal leaflet places Andil nature reserve southwest of Liesberg and gives a walk of about five minutes from the “An den Holden” bus stop. For this visit, that is a more precise reference than the village square. Rental-car travel advice: check the reserve entrance beforehand and plan the final stretch on foot; the leaflet does not identify visitor parking.

Change for Huggerwald and Roggenburg

Current PostAuto information places Kleinlützel on route 112 towards Laufen and Breitenbach. Since the December 2025 timetable change, Huggerwald and Roggenburg have been served by the rerouted 116, with a change in Kleinlützel for Laufen. The precise destination therefore matters for an invitation or appointment outside the village. Older directions describing a through route 112 to Roggenburg no longer reflect this arrangement.

A clear meeting point for bunker visits

For prearranged tours, the bunker association names the MSL ASSA ABLOY car park directly opposite the Schlossfabrik stop as the meeting point. The navigation address is Laufenstrasse 172, 4245 Kleinlützel. Driving directions from Basel lead through Laufen and Röschenz. The meeting point is before the village entrance; continuing to the village centre would take you past the destination for this tour.

Arrival followed by a walk

According to the association, the tour duration includes the walk from the car park. Parking at the meeting point therefore does not mean you can drive directly into the installation. The association's download page provides current timetables for Laufen Bahnhof and Kleinlützel Schlossfabrik, valid until 12 December 2026. The company parking mentioned is part of the arrangements for an agreed visit, not a public monthly parking offer.

To Laufen with a change in Kleinlützel

Roggenburg is served by route 116 in the new PostAuto network. For Laufen, the intended connection requires a change to route 112 in Kleinlützel. Older documents showing a through route 112 from Roggenburg to Laufen no longer describe this arrangement.

A winter parking space on private land

Roggenburg’s municipal newsletter asks drivers to park on private land so that snow clearance can proceed unhindered. For a longer car rental, this means that the accommodation’s space should remain usable even if the vehicle is not moved for several days. An empty roadside spot is not a reliable winter solution. This information comes from the municipal winter-maintenance notice; it does not establish a general parking charge or a specific number of permitted hours.

Start at Hölzlirank, finish at Station

The cantonal guide starts at the Hölzlirank PostBus stop and ends at Bärschwil Station. «Station» refers to the former railway station; the authority describes today's arrival and departure by bus from and to Laufen. Driving to only one end therefore requires organising a return to the car. Bus travel directly suits the described route.

A day outing rather than a brief parking stop

The route leads via Wasserberg, Vögeli and Fringeli into the village and on to Station. It is marked in blue and partly follows the former gypsum railway alignment. The canton allows several hours of actual walking and recommends making a day outing with breaks and wearing suitable footwear. This scale matters more for departure and return planning than the distance between the village and the valley stop alone. The description does not identify a continuous driving circuit.

Walking from Dorfplatz to the care centre

The official information brochure describes the route from Dorfplatz across the junction, left past the church and along Bodenackerweg. It gives about five minutes on foot to the care centre entrance at Bodenackerstrasse 10. This is specific access guidance for that destination, not a statement about every address in Breitenbach. Nor does it guarantee visitor parking or a space suitable for permanent use.

Grien sports ground: keep emergency access clear

FC Breitenbach’s ground rules prohibit parking in the access area so emergency vehicles can pass. Parking outside the car park, on the grass and by the children’s playground is also prohibited. When bringing children to training or attending a match, plan to use an authorised parking space and keep the access clear even during a short wait.

The bus corridor and castle access

The municipal spatial development plan identifies PostBus line 115 between Erschwil and Zwingen as Büsserach's connection. For the local guided tour offered by the Schloss-Schryber, arrival via the «Ziegelhütte» stop is recommended. The organiser names the upper cemetery car park at Schlossweg 1 as the meeting point. This is a more precise destination than simply entering «castle» into navigation.

Limited spaces on Schlossweg

The tour provider notes a limited number of spaces on the bend between the scout hut and the castle. This visitor information does not confirm freely available monthly parking. Participants in a booked tour can compare bus access with the limited parking. A guided tour also depends on its particular date and is not a guarantee that the castle is always accessible.

The cantonal construction notice for Beinwil describes comprehensive refurbishment between Neuhüsli and Schiltloch in five phases, from February 2025 to an expected summer 2030 completion. It also announces night work and full closures for individual crane installations. This does not mean the whole road is continuously closed. As of 11 October 2026, the relevant phase notice determines the situation for a particular journey; the municipality lists these documents on its homepage. Long-term parking is generally prohibited

The police regulations prohibit long-term parking on public land. A footnote defines this as regular and repeated parking. Exceptions can be requested from the municipal council. For a monthly rental, an authorised private space or an expressly granted exception is therefore decisive; an empty roadside does not create ongoing permission. The regulations also allow vehicles to be removed when they obstruct public works or lawful uses.

Regional journeys by PostBus

The municipal 2025 development vision describes PostBus connections towards Breitenbach/Laufen and Nunningen/Liestal as important commuter corridors. These may offer an alternative for an individual work or shopping journey while the car stays in its agreed space. The increased frequency sought in the vision is, however, a future development objective, not an already implemented timetable.

Gemeindezentrum and Meltingerbrücke

The PostAuto network map valid from 14 December 2025 lists Gemeindezentrum and Meltingerbrücke as separate stops. The exact destination address helps you choose the most suitable stop.

Bad Meltingen: use the visitor car park

Wohngruppe Bad Meltingen gives Badplatz 19 as its destination. Its directions pass the municipal building and, about 150 metres further on, turn slightly right towards the free car park in front of the main building. This is a visitor arrangement for this establishment, not free parking throughout Meltingen. We recommend navigating to the full address.

Walking to the Gilgenberg ruins

The cantonal castles strategy describes access to the ruins as approximately 20 minutes from the nearest public transport stop or around five minutes from the nearest public car park. The ruins themselves are above the village; the existence of a car park therefore does not mean that you can drive into the courtyard. These final sections are an important part of planning a visit with luggage or limited walking ability.

Bus through the Gilgenbergerland

The 2026 PostBus network map shows Zullwil, Dorf, Gilgenberg and Oberkirch along the line 111 corridor. Arrival through the regional public transport network is therefore possible and can be combined with the walk described. Select the precise stop for the return journey. The cantonal walking time describes normal access to the ruins, not a special rental-car space or permanently reserved parking.

Municipal rental spaces at four locations

Dorfblatt 6/2025 lists uncovered spaces at Stäglenweg and Wieden and covered and uncovered spaces at Bretzwilerstrasse 23 and Wühry. Passenger cars are specified for the last two locations. Conditions vary by space and size; the list does not establish a single monthly price. The construction administration provides information and current availability on 061 795 00 00 or bauverwaltung@nunningen.swiss. Clarify the offer directly before choosing a longer-term parking arrangement. The municipality also asks people to use private parking options and leave three metres of clear passage on roads.

Route 117 and Kastel

PostAuto continues to operate route 117 from Grellingen via Himmelried to Nunningen. However, the Himmelried local bus was discontinued with the December 2025 timetable change. For Kastel, the operator identifies a school bus outside the public transport system. Visitors therefore cannot plan to use it as an ordinary public service. This distinction matters when the destination lies beyond the regular stops.

Height differences between settlement areas

The municipal spatial strategy describes considerable height differences between Himmelried and Ennetbach as an obstacle to cycling. Map distance alone therefore gives an incomplete picture of a journey between these areas. For an everyday trip with luggage, the elevation profile and precise destination are more informative than a general distance figure.

Delivery, preparation and rental conditions

Plan your rental, delivery and return

Request delivery

Tell us your locality, preferred delivery address and rental start date. We confirm the time and extra charge in your offer. The listed places describe our delivery area, not a network of branches.

Choose a vehicle

Tell us your preferred vehicle type, dates and space requirements. Availability is checked individually and requires confirmation.

Compare the costs

Mileage is unlimited and all rental cars have TCS roadside assistance. Insurance, excess, deposit, delivery costs and total price are clarified in your individual offer before booking.

Handover and parking

Handover and return are agreed individually. Check the permits and rules for your actual parking space. The local information below helps with travel and orientation; it does not reserve parking.

How much is the excess?

The excess is CHF 1,000. An option to exclude the excess is available. Its price, eligibility and scope are confirmed in your individual offer; this does not imply blanket cover for every type of damage.

Is a deposit required?

No deposit is required for renters residing in Switzerland. For renters residing outside Switzerland, the deposit is CHF 500 or CHF 1,000, depending on the vehicle and individual offer.

What fuel level is required on return?

Return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when you collected it. Check and record the fuel level at handover.

When do I pay the rent?

Rent is payable in advance, before handover. For an ongoing monthly rental, the next payment is due before the next rental month begins. A credit card is not required. The payment method is agreed in your offer.

Which services are included?

Unlimited mileage, vehicle insurance under the agreed cover, vehicle taxes, routine maintenance, wear-related repairs and TCS assistance under the vehicle’s cover are included. A replacement vehicle may be provided subject to availability. The renter pays for fuel and operating fluids needed during use; delivery and collection are charged separately.

Who can drive, and can I travel abroad?

Rental is available from age 18 with a valid licence recognised in Switzerland for the appropriate category and an identity card or passport. Drivers must be named in the agreement or authorised in writing. The agreed driving territory is Switzerland. Travel abroad requires prior written permission; insurance, assistance and required documents must be clarified before crossing the border.

What are the rules for extensions and late returns?

The return location and deadline are in your agreement. Extensions must be agreed before expiry. An early return does not automatically reduce the agreed payment obligation. There is no surcharge for up to 15 minutes’ delay; from minute 16, the rules provide for CHF 50 per return. Additional rental days are charged at the daily rate agreed in advance. Report foreseeable delays immediately by phone; reporting alone does not authorise an extension.

What are the return and cleaning requirements?

Return the vehicle with all keys, documents and accessories. Condition, damage, mileage and fuel level are recorded at handover and return. Missing fuel is charged at actual cost. The rules provide for CHF 50 if interior cleaning is required, and documented costs for excessive dirt. The same cleaning work is not charged twice.

Which costs can arise after an accident?

Insurance cover and exclusions are set out in the agreement; blanket comprehensive cover is not promised. The excess is CHF 1,000 per covered event for which you are responsible, limited to attributable damage if lower. For an accident for which you are responsible, the rules also provide for a CHF 1,000 handling charge. You may demonstrate lower or no costs; mandatory rights to reduction are preserved and work already covered is not charged again. Excluding the excess does not automatically remove other charges. The option’s price and scope belong in your offer. Uninsured damage or justified insurer recourse may lead to further costs.

What do I do if the vehicle breaks down or is damaged?

Notify Mietkarren.ch immediately on 061 589 68 64. Coordinate towing and repairs with us or the relevant assistance provider. With a red warning light or safety-related defect, stop safely and do not continue if doing so could cause further damage or danger. Normal wear and previously documented damage are not charged.

What information helps us choose your vehicle?

Tell us your dates, number of passengers, luggage or cargo needs and any preference for automatic transmission. You can enquire about a small car, estate or van; a particular model or transmission requires our confirmation. For delivery, include the exact address and your preferred time.

What should I check in the offer before booking?

Prices start at CHF 399 for 30 days, with unlimited mileage. For the vehicle offered, have the total price, insurance, excess, deposit and payment method confirmed. Delivery adds the separately agreed charge. TCS roadside assistance does not replace these insurance details.

How should I prepare for vehicle handover?

Check existing damage, fuel or charge level and the agreed return arrangements together with the person handing over the vehicle. Record its condition in photographs and a handover report. Ask which documents and contacts to use if the car breaks down. These preparation tips do not replace your rental agreement.

What should I clarify about return, extensions or driving abroad?

Agree the return location, time and required fuel or charge level before the rental starts. Contact us before requesting an extension or change; it is not automatically guaranteed. Before crossing a border, check permitted countries and insurance cover. Clarify additional drivers and cancellation before booking too.
